Brendan Hackett, LCSW
Do you struggle with mental illness, to the point that it’s starting to affect the quality of your work and your relationships? Do you wish you could be a healthier version of yourself, but don’t know where to start?
Psychotherapy is a proven treatment method for depression, anxiety, and other mental conditions, for about one hundred years and counting. It is not only an extremely effective way to help people take charge of managing their symptoms; therapy has been proven to change lives.
In my practice, I help patients learn how their psychological symptoms developed, and redirect any negative thought or behavior patterns. Together, I’ll show you how not to be a servant to the thoughts, feelings, or traumas you’ve been struggling with.
I have years of experience helping people in crisis. You may feel isolated or disconnected as a result of untreated mental illness, but you don’t have to be. With the right kind of support and a safe, nonjudgmental environment, you can change your life.

ABOUT
As a native New Yorker, born and raised on Long Island, living in the city for the last 10 years, I have been connected to the people who choose to live here. A bustling city where, as Frank Sinatra said so well, “if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere.” I believe this to be true and I believe it to be easier with the work of psychology.
After earning my graduate degree at Fordham University, I spent much of my career at Bellevue Hospital providing clinical and psychotherapeutic care to New York’s most vulnerable population. The next step for me was to build my private practice to treat patients as individuals, couples or groups. Typically patients come to me during crisis - a difficult transition in life, a death of an important person, job stresses, anxiety, depression, trauma - you name it.
The services I provide are to alleviate these moments of crisis with a relational attitude and direct communication style. Life and relationships are complicated and often times difficult, but they are meant to provide fulfillment and happiness. If that’s not the case for you, you can do better and I can help.
SERVICES
New York is an amazing city that challenges and excites all the senses. There is an energy here that cannot be found in other cities around the world. Living in NYC is tough and we have the unique ability to adapt and cope with stress. However there are times when the environment is stressful and we feel overwhelmed.
If you’re reading this, you have taken the first step in learning how you can deal with these stresses - congratulations! I help patients achieve a goal of satisfaction and happiness in their everyday lives. As a board certified clinician, I have the education and practice wisdom to treat individuals suffering from psychological stress. I honed my assessment skills through years working at Bellevue Hospital and have studied under some of the most prominent and successful psychologists and psychotherapists in NYC.
My style is relational and empathic, at the same time challenging and focused for my patients to achieve the best therapeutic results. I employ different modalities of treatment rooted in psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral foundations. In ordinary terms, this means adjusting how it is we do what we do, while at the same time understanding why it is we do what we do. If this feels like the right fit for you personally, as a couple or as a group then please call me to have a free 15 minute consultation and we can discuss working together.
I look forward to hearing from you.
